Have you or your child’s dentist noticed any irregularities in their tooth alignment or jaw growth? Early evaluation by an orthodontist can catch problems in jaw alignment and tooth position while your child’s mouth is still developing, allowing the opportunity to take preventive or corrective measures before they become more difficult or serious problems.
Redmond Orthodontics is proud to provide patients of all ages with the orthodontic care they need to look and feel good. If you think your child could benefit from an early prevention consultation, contact us today to schedule a complimentary appointment with our orthodontist, Dr. Danilee K. Baldwin.
What is Early Prevention?
Early prevention is the practice of taking children in for an orthodontic examination at the first sign of orthodontic issues, and no later than the age of seven.
In many cases, this early evaluation isn’t immediately followed by treatment. If Dr. Baldwin determines that there are no problems that would benefit from early orthodontic treatment during your child’s evaluation, she will let you know and simply recommend complimentary, periodic follow-up visits to monitor the growth of their jaws and teeth. If Dr. Baldwin detects abnormalities in the alignment of your child’s jaws or teeth that will become more problematic if left untreated, she will advise you on the recommended orthodontic treatment and best timing for that treatment.
What are the Benefits of Early Prevention?
Early prevention methods allow Dr. Baldwin to detect orthodontic problems early on that could lead to a number of complications if left unaddressed. And because the jaws of children are more malleable than those of adults, these orthodontic treatments are typically faster and less painful than they would be later in life.
Undergoing early prevention evaluations and treatment provides your child with a number of unique advantages, including:
- Improved facial symmetry, aesthetics, and self-esteem
- Additional room for both erupted and unerupted teeth
- Decreased risk of trauma to protruding front teeth
- Expanded upper jaw to correct crossbites
- Reduced risk of developing impacted permanent teeth
- Improvements in breathing and speaking impairments
- Decreased chance of tooth decay and periodontal disease later in life
Early prevention methods of orthodontics are an excellent way for both parents to ensure the lifelong orthodontic health of their children. If you think your child could benefit from early prevention, contact Redmond Orthodontics today to schedule a consultation. We look forward to hearing from you!
